Assembling a bench to work out on can take around half an hour to complete, providing it is assembled methodically. If the bench is assembled too quickly it can result in a wobbly frame.
Read the Manual and Lay Out All Parts
Before you even start tightening any of the bolts, count out all of the components from the box and compare them to the parts list to ensure that you have not lost any washers etc before you start assembling the bench. It is much easier to spot a missing washer before you start assembling the bench rather than half way through and having to go back to retrieve it.
Tighten Bolts in the Right Sequence
As you go around the frame, tighten the bolts in sequence. This will ensure the frame remains square as you go, and prevents joints coming loose as you tighten.
Check the Leg Levellers
Make sure the rubber foot pads on the leg levellers are adjusted so that all legs of the frame are flat on the floor. Even a slight tilt here could cause the frame to shift when loaded with weight on the Flat Weight Bench.
Torque Fasteners Correctly
Finger-tight is not tight enough, over-tightening can damage threads to fasteners. Refer to the safe assembly of self-build furniture and re-tighten all bolts after the first use of the Flat Weight Bench.
Test Before You Lift
Press down on each end of the bench while seated on it to test for solidity before using it to lift weights and to check for any movement of the bench ends before storing the Assembly Tools and Spare Parts etc in the underframe area.
Keep the Hardware Accessible
Keep your Allen keys and any remaining bolts in a small bag and tape it to the underframe of your Flat Weight Bench.
