How to make your packaging stand out

Packaging’s the first thing your customers see, so it needs to do more than just protect what’s inside. Whether you’re selling online, from a physical shop or at events, your packaging needs to feel like it’s part of the product, not just an afterthought.

Start with a clear visual identity

Choose colours, fonts and graphics that reflect your brand and use them consistently. You don’t need elaborate designs. A simple logo, a colour palette and labelling can make cardboard packaging look polished without pushing up costs.

Think about what your customer will see first. Perhaps it’s the top of a box, the shipping label or the inside flap. Make sure you use that space well, perhaps with a short message or a bold pattern that creates a strong first impression.

Make opening the parcel memorable

The unboxing moment’s important, especially when customers share their purchase online. Printed tissue, paper tape, inserts or a handwritten note can make your cardboard packaging feel personal. Keep everything practical, though, as if you include too many layers it could frustrate the person opening it.

You could use the inside of the box to tell your story or thank the customer. Small touches like this feel more genuine than costly extras.

Useful and recognisable packaging

Your cardboard packaging should suit your products, be easy to handle and arrive with your customers in good condition. Don’t use oversized boxes or unnecessary filler. When your packaging’s distinctive, practical and consistent, your customers are more likely to remember who sent it and feel confident ordering from you again.
