Famous On-Screen Christmas Parties to Get you in the Mood for Party Season!
Christmas is on the way and now that the clocks have gone back and the evenings are really drawing in and getting cosy, the shops are also starting to fill up with festive favourites, from decorations and food to gifts and wrapping paper.
Along with this also comes the Christmas music and of course the socialising – which means it is also time to think about the work Christmas party if you haven’t done already! Christmas parties are a favourite tradition, both in real life and of course on the screen – here are three of the most memorable on-screen Christmas parties that you might want to watch to get you in the mood to plan yours…
First of all is a Christmas party that you would rather not be at – and that is the Nakatomi Plaza Christmas party around which the film Die Hard revolves. This favourite 80s film has become a Christmas classic for many despite not being your usual festive fayre – when ordinary New York Cop John Maclean heads to his wife’s party in Los Angeles hoping to be reunited with her, he gets a lot more than he bargained for when terrorists crash the party.
The armed gang, led by Hans Gruber, barge in and take the party hostage to rob the vault beneath the skyscraper – however John Maclean, with the help of local cop Powell team up to save the staff and get the gang arrested.
Although this is certainly a party that goes with a bang – or actually several – it is certainly not ideal – so just be careful of the party crashers when planning your Christmas party!
Another memorable Christmas party is very different yet still fondly regarded, albeit for different reasons. The king of cringe, David Brent is the star of the Office Christmas party – the final instalment of the ever-popular BBC sitcom The Office.
The Christmas specials, two episodes, invite you to Wernham Hogg for the last time to celebrate their Christmas party. David Brent, who was previously fired from his job as the boss, returns for the party determined to bring a date, as well as to be the life and soul of the party, whether people want him to or not!
In addition to this, the long will they won’t they love story between Tim and Dawn reaches a heart-warming conclusion, and of course we get to see other favourites from the series including Big Keith, Gareth and Finchy!
Although the party is simple, held in the office itself and is far from lavish, it goes to show that it is not what you spend on the party, it’s the people that make it what it is.
Another favourite Christmas film that pleases both adults and kids, of course is Home Alone. The tale of Kevin McAllister who is accidentally left behind over the festive season whilst his parents head to France to visit family. After an argument the night before where Kevin wishes that he lived alone, he is at first pleased and shocked to be rid of them all. They don’t realise he is missing until they are there unfortunately, so Kevin is left to fend for himself.
Unfortunately, two burglars are on the prowl in the neighbourhood for empty houses to easily get into, and Kevin has to come up with an array of tricks to outsmart them. One of the most memorable and ingenious scenes of the film of course is Kevin’s homemade Christmas party which he sets up to make it look as if people are in his house.
Using a set up involving a toy train, a cut out of a basketball player and lights, he tricks the burglars into thinking there is a party at his house – at least for the night.
His family do finally make it home to spend Christmas day with him, and he is delighted to be reunited with them.
Even if you sometimes find your colleagues annoying, you might be surprised that you miss them when they are not around!
So, if you are planning your office Christmas party, here are some of the things to help you set up the best one yet – maybe just leave the terrorists, and elaborate booby traps out of it!
Firstly, when it comes to venue there are lots of options to choose from – places like this Christmas parties Gloucester based venue make it easy for businesses offering Christmas party packages or you can arrange something yourself, like a party in the office or even an activity if that is something everyone prefers to a traditional party.
