How to remove reels and short videos from Facebook

Posted on August 23, 2022October 11, 2022 by Billie Eilish

Since TikTok was banned in India and other countries, many social media apps have tried to replace the reel feature to provide audiences with short videos and make their platforms more engaging. What could be a better example than Instagram and Facebook? While the creators appreciated Facebook’s effort to roll out the reel feature, not everyone likes these short videos.

There must have been many times where you’ve been completely taken aback and the short videos or Reels start playing on Facebook. As soon as you click on a page, the videos start loading and before you know it you’ve spent hours scrolling through them.

This is due to the automatic video feature and there may be some videos that grab your attention due to interest, but most of the time they are annoying!

Not only that, auto-playing videos can also be harmful and expose people to unwanted and offensive content that they shouldn’t have seen by default.

Whether you are looking for a method to stop these videos on your social media account, or are looking for a complete solution, we have tips to help you with that!

Remember that you will need to make settings changes for each of the devices you own. This is mainly due to the fact that the preferences that have been set on the phone may differ from those on the PC.

Some people like the feature on Facebook, while others are completely against it. These videos can also have annoying, disturbing and inappropriate content.

Technically, it may not be possible to completely eliminate such features from the application setup as it has become part and functionality of the app. However, there are a few solutions and we’ll explore them right here!

In this post, We will show you a complete guide on how to remove reels and short videos from Facebook.

Sounds good? Let’s begin.

How to remove reels and short videos from Facebook

1. Remove the rollers from the Facebook settings

Go to Facebook Settings by clicking on the three-line icon at the top. Then tap on the Rollers option within the Audience and Visibility section. Disable the Reels switch, it will remove and disable the Reels feature in Facebook. Restart the app and the Video Reels feature will be removed from the Facebook app.

Important Note: Toggle Reel toggle option is currently available to a limited number of users as Facebook wants to promote the Reel feature and get people to use it to compete with TikTok, YouTube Shorts, and other apps.

2. Disable automatic reel play

Getting rid of these unknown creators, and blocking annoying unwanted reels and videos and short videos can sometimes become so critical. You can also try to get the older version of Facebook to prevent this from happening in the first place.

You can turn off autoplay to remove reels and short videos.

Here’s how you can:

  • Open the Facebook app on your phone.
  • Tap the menu option in the top right corner.
  • Click on Settings and Privacy.
  • Select the Media (coils) option.
  • Then, select Never Autoplay Reels Videos.

That’s it, now the reels and short videos never play automatically and will be removed from your Facebook app.

3. Use the older version of the Facebook app

This method is pretty simple – all you need to do is uninstall the current version of Facebook and download the old version that doesn’t have the latest rollers feature.

If you haven’t already updated Facebook, chances are you’re not getting the reels. If you don’t want them, avoid downloading or updating the latest version of the app from the Play Store.

However, if you have already updated the app, here’s how you can uninstall the new version and replace it with a factory version of the app.

Open Play Store or App Store on your smartphone.

Search and find Facebook, and click on it.
